📋 Step-by-Step Guide
-
Download and Install KakaoTalk:
✨ Ensure you have the latest version of KakaoTalk installed on your device. You can download it from the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android).
-
Create or Log into Your KakaoTalk Account:
✨ Open KakaoTalk and log in with your credentials. If you don’t have an account, you’ll need to create one using your phone number.
-
Make your Kakaotalk ID searchable:
✨ Please follow the screen shots below to make sure that your ID is searchable, as it's very important step for the organiser to find you:
- Receive the Event Details:
✨ We (Wondernara) always DM the final winners on Instagram to inform them of important information. Specific details, such as the date, time, and the KakaoTalk ID of the organizer through which the call will be conducted, are usually emailed directly to you by the organizer. In some cases, we may forward this information to you, depending on the organizer. - Add the Contact:
✨ Add the provided KakaoTalk ID (sent to you by the orginizer or us via email/Instgram DM) to your contacts. Go to the 'Friends' tab, click the '+' button, and select 'Add by ID'. - Prepare for the Video Call with Your Artist:
✨ According to the majority (if not all) of the organizers, your call will be disqualified if you are with someone else. The call with your artist is intended to be one-on-one, and having any other person with you will result in your call being terminated.
✨ Ensure you have a stable internet connection.
✨ Find a quiet, well-lit place for the call.
✨ Make sure your device is fully charged or connected to a power source.
✨ Double-check the day & time of the video call event and convert it to your local time, as we always provide the time in KST (Korea Standard Time).
✨ Test Call: We strongly recommend that you test a video call on KakaoTalk with a friend. This way, you can check the internet connection, lighting, screen recording, and other important aspects.
📱Differences Between Using and Screen Recording with iPhone and Android: While the overall process of participating in a KakaoTalk video call event is similar across both platforms, there are key differences regarding screen recording capabilities:
-
iPhone:
❗️ Screen Recording Restrictions: You cannot start screen recording before the call begins. iOS restricts screen recording for some apps to protect privacy and prevent unauthorised recordings.
🎥 How to Record During a Call: To record, you must start the screen recording once the call has already begun. Swipe down to access the Control Center and tap the screen recording button.
🔈 Voice record on a separate device: Screen recording through iPhone does not record the voice, thus we advice you to record the audio on another advice e.g. your laptop, another phone, iPad, etc.
- Android:
☑️ Screen Recording Capabilities: Android devices generally allow more flexibility with screen recording. You can start recording before the call begins.
🎥 + 🔈 How to Record: Use the built-in screen recording feature (if available) or a third-party app. Start the recording and then initiate the KakaoTalk video call. Unlike iPhone, android phones record both audio and video (according to our knowledge but always double check!)
🫧 Tips for a Smooth Experience:
- Test Your Setup: Before the event, test your video call setup with a friend to ensure everything works smoothly.
- Close Unnecessary Apps: Close other apps to avoid interruptions and to ensure better performance during the call.
- Adjust Notifications: Mute other notifications to prevent them from popping up during the video call. However, be very careful in case of accidentally muting Kakaotalk app, as you will not be notified when they call you.
By following these steps and understanding the device-specific differences, you can ensure a smooth and enjoyable video call experience through KakaoTalk. However, take everything we wrote as a guide and not a must, we strongly recommend you to also search around and test what works for you! Enjoy your event!
